After attending a conference in the Poconos I took the chance to actually drive through having passed by Somerset, PA so many times. The historic courthouse always looks so beautiful from afar and it’s just as pretty up close. (It’s even more gorgeous in winter.)
It was built in 1904 and for a pretty penny even then: $247K! (That’s about $6.5mill today). I think the most interesting part of it all is that the weather vane that sits at the top was funded by soliciting bystanders who where watching the construction, ha! Somerset’s at a high enough elevation that they’ve gotten snow in June so just a pass through was fine for me.
