Unfortunately they don’t allow photos inside of the mansion but I was able to get into the conservatory with my sister and snap a few iPhone photos of the incredibly beautiful space. As it was late summer all the plants were still outside but in winter it’s filled with greenery, there’s a still-working ancient watering system/fountain and butterflies abound.
Built by a banker (Joseph Shipley) in 1851 the house is “rural gothic revival.” Shipley was English (Liverpudlian to be exact) and decided this would be his retirement home…having never set foot on the property. Once it was complete he packed up his entire English household (dog, favorite horse, housekeeper and gardener too) and moved everything here.
And like everything, it of course has some haunted stories.
